Led the System Operations portion of a large multi-dimensional transformational program with a joint consultant and utility staff focused on optimizing electric transmission and distribution operations functions. One part of this effort was in the development of a consolidation plan to reduce 32 network operations centers into four large network centers (1 for Transmission and 3 for Distribution).
Another part of this effort included the development of a full-fledged set of projects which performed all activities starting from specifying a DMS system to managing the RFP process to selecting the DMS vendor to on-boarding them to start the implementation process.

SME support to a team that assessed the needs for Distribution Operations across all the OpCos for assessing their readiness for a common ADMS implementation over a multi-year cycle. The project delivered as As-Is assessment, To-Be architecture development supported by a business case for replacing a plethora of existing systems with a common platform across all the OpCos.
Moving on to the next phase of work to plan out the actual implementation across all the OpCos. providing SME support to the Business Integration team as a part of multi-year capability delivery process. Key deliveries of this phase of the project include business process definition and rationalization across the OpCos, supporting the technical/application and data architecture, and a much more detailed business case.
SME assisting a global consulting company with development and implementation of control center processes and operational performance metrics. The client was a large international regional transmission organization. The metrics were being designed to create the dispatching center of the future
Providing SME support to a team performing an EMS integration. The MGS team, in addition, also is responsible for the planning and execution of EMS training and testing delivery to the client.
Part of a core high-impact team working directly with the VP of Operations and the COO to transform the emergency operations, restoration and management of unplanned outages for the utility with a near-term focus on improving 2018 SAIDI/CAIDI numbers and a long-term focus on providing improved capabilities for all the above.
Dr. Vadari’s latest e-book “Smart Grid Redefined: Transformation of the Electric Utility” is just out and is being received with stellar reviews and endorsements from industry leaders worldwide. This e-book is all about utility transformation. The author believes that Smart Grid and associated technologies are bringing tremendous value to the utility. However, there is one major unanticipated consequence coming from these same technologies. They are empowering customers individually and in aggregate to implement some of the technologies themselves. This specific factor is on track to challenge the utility’s mandate to deliver reliable power to the customer, something has been as American as apple pie for the last 100+ years. Utilities must move beyond technology implementations and on to business transformations to continue to stay relevant over the next 100 years. They can only do this by redefining the relationship with their customers.
Dr. Vadari’s e-book “Electric System Operations – Evolving to the Modern Grid” is being received in Amazon.com with full 5-star reviews. The e-book presents a thorough definition of system operations, identifying and explaining the various systems that support this function and how they integrate into the utility. The e-book presents the convergence of the systems used in the grid operations of today and addresses the emerging needs of the smart grid operations of tomorrow. In this e-book, one will learn how system operations helps to ensure the right levels of safety, reliability and efficiency in everything that relates to transmission and distribution grid management. The e-book discusses important technologically intensive systems — like EMS, DMS and OMS — that function inside the control center. The entire e-book has been written for both the power system engineer and the business professional with the strong technical emphasis that is required but with a business focus necessary to emphasize its importance.
